Come As You Are, Be As He Is

There is a phrase that gets bandied about in churches:

God loves you just the way you are, but He loves you too much to let you stay that way.

There is something wrong with this passage. It suggests that He is not pleased with us.

How can we be accepted, and yet He does not accept us as we are?

Of course, God loves us too much for us to stay in sin, for grace ensures that sin shall have no dominion over us!

But still, "God loves you the way you are, but loves you too much to stay that way" always rung odd, off, untrue.

The phrase we should use is more like this:

"God loves you the way you are, so therefore you don't act the way you used to."

His love is a better "drug" than anything the world can offer.

It really is!

There is no need to work a program. There is a need for us to believe on Him!

We are placed in Christ Jesus, and God loves us as much as His Son Jesus:

"Herein is love perfected among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement; because as He is, so are we in this world!" (1 John 4:17)

When you see who is in you -- Christ in You -- and when you see who you are -- in Christ, as He is! -- why live like anything less?
