Though our decision was a vital and crucial step, it could have little permanent effect unless at once followed by a strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of, the things in ourselves which had been blocking us. Our liquor was but a symptom. So we had to get down to causes and conditions. (AA, pg 64)
This is a patent falsehood, one which should cause every member of the different AA meetings to run for their lives and never look back.
The liquor is a symptom, but in effect so are the fears and resentments which cause people too drink.
Human beings are spiritually dead, because from the sin of Adam down to the present day, mankind has been thrust forth into a world in which he is cut off from God.
But Jesus Christ has closed that gap for us, becoming the mediator of a new covenant:
"And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of
death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first
testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal
inheritance." (Hebrews 9: 15)
This eternal inheritance waits for all who will receive this grace by faith!
Forget the Twelve Steps, people! You do not have to postpone His immediate life and love in your life!
