"Sharing Your Feelings"

I cannot think of a more pernicious habit than the need to report one's feelings to other people.

There is such a fear of resentment and anger and fear in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, that men and women are constantly looking at their feelings, trying to make sure that they are feeling the right way, so that what they are feelings does not impend their working day.

Yet we are body, soul, and spirit:

"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5: 23)

It is the Spirit that profits us:

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." (John 6: 63)

Yet in AA meetings, people spend so much time on their flesh, dealing with their thoughts and feelings.

Yet God wants us to walk in the Spirit, resting in His provision for us, and He takes care of the rest!

I cannot share this enough: the cult-culture of AA which tells people to review their feelings, to share with someone the resentments that they have, to talk about their fears, is a lie from the pit of hell.

Instead of getting busy with our feelings, let us rest in His Word and His truth. The Spirit of God is on the move around us as well as in us: there is no reason, therefore, to assume that we must confess our feelings and thoughts in order to break free.

In fact, one of the simplest truths is notably absent in AA -- that our feelings merely respond to our emotions, nothing more. If we rest our minds on the truth of God's Word, then we have nothing that will cause us to feel bitter or afraid or worried.

It is so simple, to let Jesus rest you! But we simply will not come to Him!

And AA insists on letting people choose a Higher Power of their own understanding, yet our understanding is marred by a need to do and say and think in order to get something done. That is not how God works through us. We rest in Him, and His grace comes through and we find ourselves doing with ease the very things which in times past seemed impossible to do!
